And technically I accomplished my goal of "buy white t-shirts" and "equip Eva with snacks".

But somewhere in the middle there was a gas explosion at the Flatiron building and since I was walking in the area at the time it took me forever to get home.

Luckily I wasn't there-there when it went up, but I had to detour around it to get to where I was going.

Yes, luckily it was just an inconvenience for me, but there it was.

Apparently it was a steampipe explosion near the Flatiron building, not in the building itself. And there was asbestos in the steampipe insulation, so people who might have gotten detritus on their clothing are being advised to remove what they had on and wash it (and shower too) as soon as they get home.

I thought it might be something like that when I saw the people with masks. I didn't want to catch the train down, though, due to only having one fare, so instead I walked to Union Square. Waste of time, ultimately.
