Not sure if this isn't overblown, but at least it isn't literal life and death.

If you’re European, in a couple of weeks you will be denied any and all access to fandom contents on Tumblr and everywhere else on the internet. Here’s why.

But not everything’s lost yet. There’s another round of voting scheduled for the early days of July.

One wonders if this only applies to Tumblr or throughout the Internet?

The internet. Here's a good recap from a reliable source. (And yeah, technically it would only affect the EU, but in reality it would mean content providers would have to filter everything and so... yeah.)

"In a rare feat, the law has united consumer and tech lobbies in opposition."

Good call!

Voting's happening on July 5th. Save Your Internet has a lot of good resources.

I think I emailled a form letter to a couple of Scottish MEPs about this. It is scary. And on one hand I'm like "surely nobody is stupid enough to break the entire internet like this?" but then I thought the same thing about Brexit D: D: D:

Hmm, I doubt it’ll be so devastating. But I’ll read up on it first.

If you're looking for resources, a bunch of IP and information law professors actually did an AMA on Reddit yesterday - you can find it here.

Thanks; I was about to look for insider information, but an AMA by law professors is a great start. :)

Well, that sucks. I hope the next vote stops this foolishness in its tracks.

That's... that could actually kill fandom. Although what if someone simply used non-European sites?

Of course, I have a theory that fandom will eventually go into a non-internet specific system somehow. Fandom as it once was just doesn't work as well with the internet becoming part of everyday life - and this is just one example. But that could be AGES. :/

In addition to my previous comment, maybe [community profile] thisfinecrew and the OTW and the EFF could do with hearing about this? I haven't seen it elsewhere.

Good point, TFC is primarily about US politics but I know they have non-US members and include a space for them in weekly checkins so they might not mind, especially for something that's as directly related to the intersection of fandom and politics as this.
