Ugh. My keyboard home row is completely busted. Using the onscreen keyboard, but I hate it. Hope nobody expects replies today : (

The laptop is already held together with spit, so I will get a USB keyboard for now and save for a new PC.

ARGH. I sympathize. I'm desperately limping my computer along. Hoping it will last until I can afford to buy a new one!

I know your pain - I just got this laptop for my birthday because the old one's harddrive died, for the 2nd time. =/ It was also falling about and I couldn't see the screen and had to plug it to a tv. Oh man, it was hard in those final months with her. =( Good luck with getting a new one.

I got one of these, if you like something about the size of a cheap keyboard, plus a keyboard skin.

You can also get ACTUAL refurb "Model M" keyboards, but they run around $300 on up now, and the Unicomp ones are around $100 because they ARE new (and use USB connectors, rather than adapters.) :(

Basically, either is like "the last keyboard you'll ever need to buy". :)

Oh, i wasn't trying to imply that you didn't know that. :)

I have a helluva time FINDING keyboard skins to fit the keyboards *I like*. (Which is, "as close to buckling spring type" as I can get.)

I mentioned the Unicomp keyboard + skin because they make the skins to fit the particular keyboard you order. It's not a third party thing.

Yeesh! I've never had a problem like that, I count myself as fortunate. In fact, with the exception of my current iMac BT keyboard which has some sticky keys, I've had good luck with keyboards. But next week I'm going to be dropping a couple hundred bucks getting the MagSafe port replaced on one MacBook and five keycaps and spring assemblies replaced on another: my wife's work laptop is having video glitches, and she's afraid of total failure and needing to have the thing shipped out to Apple Depot Repair for an overhaul. So I've got to get both backup laptops working properly!

You can get one for any price. But I'm using a USB keyboard that I got for $20 that I like better than ones that cost four times that. (I bought a new computer this year, just hated the keyboard that came with it and replaced it as soon as I could.)
