It's tortured another couple of times, Michael angsts, then decides to get proactive. She points out that it is suffering brain damage, the doctor points out that it's probably sentient, everybody gets very serious - and the tardigrade goes into deep protective hibernation. The engineer whips up a solution to take its place with a blissful minimum of technobabble. Michael frees the tardigrade into space. Cheesy special effects as it runs as far away from Discovery as possible.

Other thoughts: 1. Tilly needs a role other than being Michael's teddy bear.

2. We have got to learn the names of some of these people on the bridge, ffs.

3. Klingons torturing people are the worst Klingons, with or without implied rape.

4. Yay, gays!

5. Creepy scenes would be just as creepy without the dramatic "don't touch that dial!" music cluing us in.

rivendellrose has an interestingly plausible theory about our new character. Spoilers, naturally.

Yeah, I know there were several people who weren't willing to watch until they knew if it'd be all right, and I don't blame them.

I thought it was only me not knowing the names. I have given them all nicknames. Though to be fair I also call Tilly "Awkward Redhead."

Not knowing the names is symptomatic, I think, of one of the biggest problems of this series: too much focus on one character at the expense of the rest of the crew.

I get that they're trying to shake up the ST Formula, but in this, the formula works. Trek is supposed to be an ensemble piece.

The last few sentences of her theory give me hope that there might someday be a version of this show I want to watch.

2. They tried to give us names for Lt. Daft Punk and the black helmswoman with the awesome hair, as well as to remind us of the name of the red-haired white woman with the cyber implants who used to be on the Shenzhou... but they went by too quickly for me to remember.

I distinctly remember getting a name for the helmswoman, because I was terrified she'd be killed once we had a name for her. :P

Otherwise your items are yes, yes, and yes for me (although the music tag didn't really bother me because I was too busy being upset that they found one of my personal horror buttons). And also "eek."

There is a Scooby-Doo episode where a monster lunges out of what had been a mirror and snatches at them. This scene replayed in the credits for the show. For years, I could not watch the credits, much though I loved Scooby-Doo, because I didn't want to see those three seconds.
