Well, I'm making progress

Now the computer tells me that it cannot reset because a required drive partition is missing.

Granted, I have no idea what to do with this information, but still - progress!

Onward through the fog!

I'd assume it means all the following: (1) The hard drive was partitioned when the computer was manufactured. (2) One of the partitions was loaded with an image of the operating system as installed during the process of manufacture. (3) The operating system includes a facility for refreshing itself from the partition I just mentioned. (4) You told the operating system to refresh itself from that partition. (5) The partition couldn't be found.

If I'm right, there are several possible reasons the partition can't be found, but I doubt that it matters.
