Polydactyly

Apparently, this can be caused for no reason, or as part of a genetic disorder, or as part of an inocuous dominant gene. The extra digits are either useless or not. It is considered one of the more common birth defects.

Interesting.

Yep ^_^ I didn't know it was that common, although I imagine most people get their extra fingers removed nowadays, so you just don't notice it being such a big deal o.O

I always sort of figured it wasn't that uncommon because I can remember knowing about a few people who had had extra fingers and had them removed. Actually, I remember quite clearly in kindergarten that a boy I knew had an extra thumb. I still remember him coming up to me one morning telling me how he got it removed... He was so excited.

My youngest brother had three extra toes when he was born. Fully functional too! It was cool, till he got them removed.
