I knew that he's from a Jewish family (when he got his white German Shepherd, he said on his blog how the Nazis tried to eradicate them much like they tried to eradicate his family, and later explained the background of that remark). I didn't yet know that he himself ascribed to any single religion, though.
Jewish doesn't necessarily mean religious, though. I have no idea if he's religious. There just happen to be so very many Mormon speculative fiction authors right now that I've started keeping a mental list (Shannon Hale is at the top, Orson Scott Card is at the bottom). And once you start subdividing authors by religion or ethnicity, it's easy enough to just keep on doing it, so every time I get another piece of information I slot it in.
