You know, there's one good thing about the dearth of diversity in kidlit
Every year, you look back at what was published and bemoan the fact that such a teeny tiny percentage features protagonists that fit in any axis of minority, but the advantage of this is that when you find one, they're generally better written than a random book from the non-diverse-at-all pile. It's like they have to work harder and harder to get published and put on the shelves, so they're super great.
