Thanks for posting about this, it's really great.
You'll have heard this all before...
In 1925, this happened. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1925_Santa_Barbara_earthquake) A member of Angelus Temple in Los Angeles (today's Foursquare Church) managed to contact Aimee Semple McPherson just before the phone lines went dead. Entering the air studio of Temple-owned KFSG, Sister urged listeners to bring relief supplies to the Temple to be rushed on trucks to Santa Barbara. As the Red Cross met to discuss what kind of aid to send and how much, Sister's second convoy of relief trucks was just beginning to unload in Santa Barbara.
Many veterans don't like the Red Cross because during WWII they charged $ for coffee and doughnuts, other relief organizations gave away free. Relief workers after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks told me that the Red Cross showed up late and charged $ for things the Salvation Army were giving away free. And I wouldn't give you a dime for any organization that refuses to save or shelter people's pets, as happened after Hurricanes Katrina/Rita.
When there's a disaster, any donations we make go to Oxfam.
