Like so many others now, I have seen that trailer for the film Noah.

And, you know, there are so many possible things one can say about the idea of a movie based on the story of Noah... or any of the flood stories, really, but the one thing that kept running through my mind was "are those costumes historically accurate?"

I don't know enough about the history of fashion to say, unfortunately, but seriously. Are they?

Kinda begs the question of when it took place, doesn't it?

Pfft, there were totally buttonholes pre-Noah, they just got ... washed away in the flood and forgotten?

Exactly! You've got to assume so much without any historical, archaeological or geological basis in depicting a Noah's Ark story that an attempt at historical fidelity would be like, oh I dunno, writing a Twilight fanfic with meticulous detail to every social interaction to very subtly give away that Edward carefully arranges his day to day activities to avoid being within line of sight of a crucifix or something.

That shirt does look awfully 21st-century American though.

Nothing at all, just not capable of being grounded in known, observed facts! :)
