A one-room school sounds great, and I kinda wish that you could find some in more populated areas as well! Though it wouldn't be very cost-effective, of course.

On the other hand, here in the city we have $40k private schools....

I would never be able to send my (hypothetical future) kids to an independent school if I didn't work at one. Even then, I would probably only pay for the high school.

There are a few independent schools that are already well over the $40,000 mark. Philips Andover and Choate, I think, are both around $50,000 and change if you board.
