One final thought on HP before we finish it today (or tomorrow at the LATEST)

1. I never noticed it before, but none of these people walk anywhere. They always "stride". Snape strides angrily. Hagrid strides quickly. Harry just strides around. Seriously. Stride, strode, all day long.

2. On the OTHER hand, Hermione wasn't waspish even once in this book. Clearly she got bitchier as she got older.

To be honest, my thought was that it was to show that Ron only fell in love with Hermione because she was just like his mom (oh, Freud....), but then, I don't like Molly Weasley. (I've said it before, but I think it's quite telling that her eldest two left the country, the next eldest estranged himself from the family, and the twins, despite being in London and in touch, were always "too busy" to pop home (apparition! literal popping!) for dinner.)

Hm. Honestly, I don't like Ron. I never have.

I've always thought we could have got more and better mileage out of Molly as a character, if she'd ever been portrayed as a human being rather than just a clinging mother. After all, that Mama Bear scene with her and Bellatrix was pretty awesome, and you hardly ever hear about Fabian and Gideon at all, and I always felt that might have been interesting to talk about instead of the oblique treatment Jo gave it.

Molly's brothers? They were members of the original Order of the Phoenix, killed in the first war. Molly gave Harry Fabian's watch on his 17th birthday.

At first I thought they were some horrible local translation of the oldest two Weasley children.

j/k - I'm British, too, at least by passport, though I've always lived in Germany.

But apparently some languages did make some rather... different choices in how (or even whether!) to translate the names of some of the characters.
