Okay, just to give you the news...

Ferry crashed, coming from Manhattan. Everyone in the family is fine (thank the appropriate deity, if any) so that's good. What didn't get mentioned AT ALL until just recently, and only because the reporter used to go to Stuyvesant is that this is a SCHOOL boat, the 3:00 and 3:30, that's when all the kids in schools in the area (mostly Stuy, though there's a few other schools with a large Staten Island population) head home. But there's only 10 confirmed dead, I think.

Also, one of the captains on the boat (there's two) went home, god only knows why they let him, and either attempted or committed suicide, nobody's sure which. Not to disparage the other loss of life, but I think his is the greatest single tragedy, nobody else has any guilt associated with them.

Now to figure out how I'm getting to school tomorrow...

I saw some footage of it on CNN. It's the same boat we went on to get to SI the first day I was there. I reckognized the seats...

Unless there are two with the bucket like seats..

Actually there are two. Well, were. Plus the smaller, bath-toy boats have similar seats as well.

There's two of each style of boat. Two bucket seats, big. Two bucket seats, baby. Two GOOD WOODEN SEATS YOU CAN LIE DOWN ON. And the two new ones. Only good thing to come from this mess is that they can't retire BOTH of the old boats (with the wooden seats).
