So, Evangeline's at that age where they really like to roleplay the most banal situations.

And she loves having me. She gives me my lines before every scene. Today she got very upset that I simply Did Not Understand she wanted me to be the big girl, because her doll had to be the baby, because BABY JILL CAN'T TALK!!!!

Ahem. (She says humph a lot too lately, and "I don't care", which she picked up from her sister.)

Yesterday she cracked me up. With my help, she called her mom. And right before Jenn picked up she turned to me and said "Talk really youdly. Talk youdly when I'm on the phone." So I went "I'm interrupting you, I'm interrupting you, I'm interrupting you" over and over again until she stopped, turned around, and said "Connie! Don't talk youdly when I am on the phone!"

I almost fell out of the hammock, I laughed so hard! That's right up there with Ana "putting Nanen in time-out", telling her to cry (to be more realistic, I guess...?) and then coming back and demanding to know why she was crying.

I need to have a girl. I love my son, but I don't think boys play this way.

Remind me again, please, who "Nanen" is?

Ah, I see.

How do you pronounce it?

Just the way it's spelled.

Hm, English spelling is notoriously unreliable, but - something like "Nay-nin", then? Rhyming with "trainin'"?

Or plannin'?

I see.

I'm the only one in my family who merges in and en.

I don't merge them in stressed syllables (I keep "pen" and "pin" apart, for example), but I think I merge them in post-stress syllables -- "roses" sounds as if it's spelled "roziz". (I've heard that unstressed vowel called a "schwi" -- a bit like a "schwa", but closer to the sound in "bit".)
