Well, this has been one sucky week.

First Angel was hurt, now my sister is staying over because she, 'dul, and Ana almost died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Jenn got worried and called the fuel guys: "Sorry, we only go out in the morning". So she called the gas company: "Open all the windows, don't turn on any lights, we'll be there within an hour". And when they got there: "If you'd waited another half an hour, you'd be dead". No joke. Apparently, their furnace hasn't been cleaned in about forever. As it happens, they're fine, but it could've been worse. So guess which two (three, I should really get one for Lizziey) households are getting CO detectors? Yes, that would be US. We don't need to die to learn our lesson. *hugs her family*

Eeep! Well, I'm glad they got out.

Ahem.

What he said was if we waited till MORNING ... He told s to stand in the doorway for 30 mintues to get fresh air and clear out our systems.

Now then...

This morning they came and inspected the furnace, and told us it was NOT a problem, and they showed Abdul how to check and see if it's venting properly. So, either we
a) didn't have carbon monoxide in the house but rather something else (there was DEFINITELY something, not only was it stuffy and very dry but it gave me a laying-down-only headache that was more like a head-throbbing-sledgehammer-hit effect) - note on this, they gas guy did *not* find carbon monoxide in the bedroom, but we had had the windows open for quite a while at that point, he did say that the furnace was the source of the problem, but whether that meant he had found carbon monoxide down there or if that was just his guess on the fumes is unclear at this point, we hadn't thought to ask last night.
b) Had carbon monoxide as a freak one-time accident (or some other fume-y gas)
c) The gas guy didn't know what he was talking about (as there was no question that there *were* fumes, I don't buy this one too much, however he could have been wrong on the SOURCE, which I think is possible.)
d) The furnace people didn't know what they were talking about (or lied). This is possible, but as they showed us how to check for proper venting, I don't know...

Today everything seems fine (so far). So I'm thinking a and/or b is the most likely. We did purchase an alarm, and of course if it's something else (which has an effect that is noticable if not a "smell") then we are on the alert should we experience it again, and have the necessary phone #s ready.

All I can say is, it's always better to be safe than sorry. I'd much rather call someone to chek even if I feel dumb when they don't find anything. Plus, THANK GOD we live so close to my mom's house. I'm extremely grateful for that 20 minute walk (compared to the hour and a half or more it can take us to get to Brooklyn or midtown Manhattan; it's 2 1/2 to 3 hours to go to Abdul's parents).

*huggles Connie*

Now, go clean!

Damn. Thank god they noticed/got out in time!

Oh man, we have a CO detector... It beeps REALLY LOUDLY when you plug it in. So, to piss me off (loud sharp noises and lingering sounds [chewing] bug the shit out of me) she unplugs it. Plugs it in. Unplug. Plug in. Again. Again...

Long story short, get a CO,sup>2 detector! Everyone!
