Honest question: Why would you impeach him? What did he do? (If it's that he lied about Saddam's WMD, I probably won't convince you otherwise, but he was only going by CIA and international intelligence.)
1. He tried very hard to convince people there was a link between Saddam and 9/11, while all the time he knew there wasn't. 2. He supports the Patriot Act. 'nuff said. 3. He's lied about the WMDs by saying later "oh, we went in because he was not letting inspectors in, which is a direct contradiction not only of the facts but of his earlier statements. He appears to think we are so stupid we cannot grasp basic history. When those lies affect our actions, they aren't innocent like (for example) if he had lied about sex.
I could go on, but I don't have actual facts in front of me and don't like making mistakes.
It seems to me his biggest mistakes have been how he reacts to accusations. Instead of trying to honestly explain, I think he usually ends up backtracking and contradicting himself.
Politicians do tend to do that. It's stupid, of course, because nobody can respect those who do stupid things like deny mistakes, but they do it anyway.
Yeah, but he hasn't lied while under oath about any of those things. I thought that was what they *really* impeached Clinton for. It's one thing to lie to the public, quite another to lie under oath.
Though I wouldn't mind if he were impeached. It is a bit late, but I hope that we'll get someone else in office.
I would call lying in his state of the union address "lying under oath"... at the very least, it's a violation of the oath he swore when he was signed in.
Agreed... but I'm not sure if the same weight is given to presidential oaths as to those made in court. There's no, "I swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God," line, is there? I don't know. I'm rather ignorant in these matters.
And Uly...I can't see your image. *pouts* I bet I'd find it funny, or whatever...
And I definitely think Bush has said and done things worthy of impeachment, but hopefully if we survive until election day we won't have to worry much more about it except cleaning up his huge MESS and what's left of our soldiers and "enemies".
