Today's uninspiring quote:

"I just want you to know that, when we talk about war, we're really talking about peace."

Yes, it's everybody's favorite guy-in-the-white-house: Shrubboy!

Every time I hear a quote about war from Bush from now on, I'm gonna substitute "peace" then. "Peace on terror" "we're going to attack Iraq to prevent peace" and so on...

Gah. Perfectly good 1984 analogy, and you go and ruin it with your logic and math and things. For shame. :p

Connie, where do you find all these smart, witty friends? My list has quite several too, but...I'm impressed!

*laughing with a few of them*

And the Baby Bush toys are just sheer genius!!

I shall also have to mentally insert "peace" wherever he says "war."

3: yep, that. "YAY PEACE!" Well, the kind that I would consider "peace" anyway.

And considering some of the context, I'm certain a few of the "war = peace" insertions would make better sense, with his motivations and consequential results.

For my A Level in English literature we studied war literature. One of the poems which struck me the most and has stayed with me is the following. Your post reminded me of it.

From a German War Primer
When the leaders speak of peace
The common folk know
That war is coming.
When the leaders curse war
The mobilization order is already written out.

Those at the top say: peace and war
Are of different substance.
But their peace and their war
Are like wind and storm.

War grows from their peace
Like son from his mother
He bears
Her frightful features.

Their war kills
Whatever their peace
Has left over.

On the wall was chalked:
They want war.
The man who wrote it
Has already fallen.

- Bertolt Brecht

What *is* Shrub's IQ?

I'm guessing we're talking double, not triple, digits.
