Uh-oh...

So, I finally bought me a router. And I got it *all the way home* before I realized that I need ethernet cables for it to work. (It also can function wirelessly, but I need a something-or-other for that too, I believe)

I don't have ethernet anything. My modem plugs straight into my laptop or the big computer via a USB cord.

And I paid too much for this router, I know, I know.

Dang it.

So I haven't opened the box yet. I want to be able to return it if, say, one of my friends (or my Uncle Gabriel) should pop up and offer to send me a decent router with all the necessary accoutrements.

In other news, I'm apparently scheduled to take a CPE tomorrow at noon. There's no way. I'm babysitting tomorrow at noon. Besides, I'm fairly certain that I'm exempt from those or something, so I have to fix this. Damn mail service, fucking up when I get news of stuff.

ah, that makes sense. i forgot they let you do that. so, yeah, like the person above me said, either you'll be dragging ethernet cables around from the router to your laptop, or you'll need to invest in a wireless card for your laptop. i can only assume your cable modem is near your computer, so you only need a regular ethernet card for that (and you can get one of those for roughly ten bucks). If you're going to get a wireless card for your laptop, try your best to get it in the same brand as your wireless router for maximum compatibility. wireless is jawdroppingly fickle.

just make sure to do the math first. most major places don't even sell regular routers anymore (wireless routers double as regular ones), and it might be cheaper to get a wireless card for your laptop than it would to get a regular card for the laptop and buy ethernet cable (which can get expensive).
