*frowns*

Memories are weird. Today, I'm eating Spanish Rice, when I get a memory out of nowhere.

School assemblies always started with chords on the piano. Two meant "get ready, stand up" and then a third to say "sit down". This would be followed by the introducing student. Their speeches were always the same:

Welcome students, teachers, parents. Honored guests. You're here today to see *blank* performed by *blank*. Thank you.

I never listened. I always looked at the curtains. Not the ones on stage, the ones on the windows. Those windows were high off the floor, and the curtains were so thick and heavy that they let no light in. I used to think that if I could only get up on the windowsills (which were nice and deep) I could hide from everything. The windows were high enough that nobody could see in from the outside, and nobody could see me behind the curtains, ever. It would be perfect.

Well, it made sense to me then. I always just wanted to hide away from everyone.
