On the 'imposing Hindi' link - some years back I heard a conference paper which was far more fascinating than I'd anticipated (it was one in a panel) on swearing in to the Indian Parliament and the linguistic issues - and there were some minority language speakers whose own language was not included in the choices who chose English rather than Hindi to take the oath. There were also some who did it in Sanskrit, which nobody has actually spoken for centuries. But anyway, a fairly sensitive political issue.

I'm betting that "sensitive" is a vast understatement - if Modi is promoting Hindi-first, it's gotta be part of his nationalist agenda in some way that I don't quite grasp but also know I don't like.
