Well, now that that's out of the way, I seem to have accumulated a metric ton of links recently! You may have noticed that.

Why Aren't My Kids Hyper After Binging On Sugar?

As some commenters noted, it is possible that ALL the children were hyper due to the presence of artificial sweeteners in the "control" group, which is why scientists didn't note a difference. But then, I for one would much rather have tons of sugar in the diet than even a little artificial sweetener. Why parents erroneously *did* probably does have more to do with expectations.

I once ran into someone who commented on the body-policing thing kind of obliquely.

We were discussing beards and I mentioned that I didn't feel I could really ask Grey to shave his face, since it was HIS face and all. Someone burst out with "You mean he never asked you to--?" then broke off with "Nevermind."

I smiled sweetly and said, "Grey doesn't suffer from trichotillophobia," which got an initial laugh and a delayed one as people looked up the word on their smertfones.
