Exactly; the super-religious people would naturally oppose the minions of Science, AKA Satan, and the minions of Science would nuke them from orbit: it's the only way to be sure.

Roddenberry died back in (*checking*) 1991, and the Eugenics Wars supposedly began in 1992. I've held right along, though, that when McCoy, Kirk and Spock went through the 'Guardian of Forever', even though Kirk stopped Bones from saving Edith Keeler and thus prevented the Nazis from winning WWII, they must have caused some other, more subtle 'Butterfly Effects'. They went back to a time-line that appeared to be the one they'd left, but... once they were there, would they have been aware of any discrepancies...?

The Vulcan Science Directorate has determined that time travel is unfair, and how right they were.
