Three related links (I took them all from each other) on toilets

And bidets!

Link one
Link two
Link three - this one talks about sewers

And a picture of what purports to be a Japanese toilet. Clever design, you don't have to redo all your plumbing to reuse that graywater.

Interestingly, there's a lot of talk there about saving toilet paper, and how even with a bidet you still need toilet paper, and nobody seems to realize that everybody on Etsy makes cloth toilet wipes. They're pretty and fluffy, what more can you ask for?

That is, indeed, a Japanese toilet! The house I lived in had one. They're fantastic for the little half-baths both Japanese houses have for all toilets, since those rooms are tiny and it's hard to fit a sink in some of them.

I want a fancy Japanese toilet that does all that! The house I grew up in had a bidet, but we never used it as a bidet. Instead, I turned on the fountain and played My Little Pony in it. I had no idea what it was! :P I mean, I knew it was called a bidet, but I didn't know WHY you'd use it.

Sure, bidets are neat, but warm toilet seats are EVIL!

Not exactly cold, just room temperature. It's really off-putting if you go to the toilet and it's warm, most commonly happens when someone has been sitting on it, or if it's sitting in a spot of sunlight. I suppose it is because I'm used to it being room temperature, so if I'd grown up with it being at body temperature, I'd probably not have this reaction.

The first article is disturbing. I assumed everyone's mom taught them how to wipe properly, with toilet paper moistened at the sink for the final wipe.

But yes, I too hope that the more futuristic toilets catch on here. The point the author makes about being able to wash properly during your period is enough to sell me completely (especially since I usually feel too lousy to bother with a shower every day at that time)... but, pervert that I am, I have to wonder if that's the only reason people enjoy the "front wash" with optional pulsing stream of water!

Anyhoo. I like the idea in the second article of putting these toilets in public buildings so people can try them out... but I doubt it will happen. It's hard enough to find a public toilet which isn't ancient and/or filthy, and half the time, most people can't seem to figure out how to use those properly! Forget about one with dials and buttons.
