On the way home I was so happy that I stopped by the Indian Grocery

We desperately needed mustard seeds and mustard oil, and I'd noticed we were low on cumin seeds as well, so I re-upped all of that.

There's a big difference between an Indian corner store and a regular one, and that difference is that Indians really do eat better. They must, because the freezer section (to name just one example) was full of okra and corn, not ice cream and chocolate bars.

So I picked up my spices, endured the interrogation on "Do you really know how to cook these?" (the man behind the counter wasn't being mean, but normally that's the sort of thing that really irritates me. But I was JUST SO HAPPY that it didn't matter) and headed home.

Mustard oil. Just in time for us to cook that kale!

Haha, you only THINK we eat better! It's just that all our junk food is fried and made with white flour. We do eat more veggies than Americans do, though.

Okra at the CORNER STORE? Jeez, don't tell the Captain.

(This week at Safeway they had some okra in the produce section that was $5.99 a pound....and it looked like it had been stomped on. Six dollars a pound is bad enough, and then it isn't even in good condition? Rantrantrant.)

Y'know, there might be some to be had at the "Fruit & Veggie" store on Victory - across the street from the Taco Bell.
