I have an interest in bees, beekeeping and honey.

I buy my honey from the beekeeper around the corner, making it truly local. I do have to correct Jackson on one thing, though:

Jackson started beekeeping during World War II to have some extra sweetener when sugar was being rationed. Since then he's seen the "complete disappearance of wild honeybees"

Maybe in Maine. There were wild honeybees in a hollow tree around here as late as last year. (The landowner cut the tree down, which saddened me, but I hope the colony was able to reestablish itself elsewhere.)

My neighbor-apiarist says he has had no problems with CCD or mites either one.
