The kid probably didn't know better - and, at his age, no matter what you do, even if he knows better, he might not have the control to behave.
As for his mom, I'll agree his mom should have had a hand on him, but sometimes it happens that you don't. And I can certainly understand the impulse to drag your kid away and hope nobody notices it was you! Not because of the chy-uld bit, but because it's embarrassing.
Though you're probably right on that account - nowadays, even with the impulse, I know I'd drag Ana or the baby up to say sorry (or, in the baby's case, so *I* could say sorry), and explain to them why they Should Not Have Done That.
