I happened to be standing next to a pair of adolescents. First the girl remarked that she couldn't believe she'd lived on the Island 16 years and never taken the Ferry (I couldn't believe it either!) and then her friend, clearly trying to impress her with his experience, found himself in a loop, repeating "It can take them a long time to get off" at least three times. (It CAN take them a long time to get off the boat! There's always somebody who thinks the announcement to disembark wasn't actually directed at them). But I don't think she noticed, so that's all right :)

I hope they had fun! The boat is really the most affordable date in town, and certainly fun if you don't take it every day.

And "baby outgrew clothes" isn't a story, it's a piece of advice - don't save the dress up clothes for dressy occasions!)

Your story about the teenagers makes me think of Edna St. Vincent Millay, and also Madeleine L'Engle quoting Millay: "We were very young, we were very merry, we rode back and forth all day on the ferry."

Edit: and I apparently misquoted: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/poems/14404/recuerdo

These days, can you do that without paying an additional fare?

I've seen a number of the horse rings in Portland. I even pointed out one that was next to a bus stop out to [personal profile] fayanora a few years back.

She didn't believe that was what it was until she did some checking. :-)

I have a dress my kid never wore. It was dry-clean only. ...like, er, who even makes dry-clean only clothes for babies? O_o

(It was a gift and if we'd gotten a formal picture of the kid at that age then I suppose we might've used it, but... it's in the closet. Never worn.)

I suppose, but A: dunno anyone who needs it, and B: ...it's dryclean? I don't blame the person who sent it, as I know she's not really got a lot of kid-sperience, but I would feel terrible inflicting such a white elephant on someone.
