The piece about Hollywood struggling with interracial romances is interesting because commercials sure aren't! At least here in Canada. It seems every couple in a commercial now is interracial, and if they're not, they're usually then same-sex.

AFAIK racial issues are rather different in Canada from the US.

Amphibians interest me for being able to do things like morph genetics like that; I guess it also helps in certain things like their love life. Regardless, I am sure there are a lot of researchers staring at lizard eggs being fertilized. It interests me as well since I know it's one of the few species that can exhibit regeneration, but we come from a genus that is far more rigid. Perhaps because of our innate complexity? I'm honestly curious if this also reflects "defects" in our genetic legacy as well along the way, but I'm equally curious if cancer rates are noteworthy for amphibians for exhibiting this benefit.

Also not surprised that Hollywood is having trouble showing progressiveness in things like interracial marriage. They've already been struggling keeping up with audiences. Hell, I am reminded of how even HBO has been emphasized to show the struggle of Idris Elba getting "Insecure" greenlit by HBO compared to the well-connected benefits Lena Dunham had when she made "Girls."

I clicked thru to a couple of the links from the Hollywood piece and read them as well. They seem to reflect what I see when we're on the road; going to large events like comic-cons and renfaires lets you see a fairly good-sized sample of the local population.

One thing I do notice is that a lot of those interracial relationships are a white woman with a man of color. Russ suggests that this may result from white women getting tired of being treated like shit by white men and deciding to try something different. Which in turn makes me wonder if there isn't some intersectionality involved -- her white privilege balances out his male privilege, so that they are on more equal terms within the relationship. But that's entirely speculation.
